Let Nexus have a go to see if QC works

Tyne & Wear PTE Nexus's plans for quality contracts have certainly brought out some strong feelings. Brian Cox (Inside Track, December) might just like to consider that for many bus users the phrase 'political dogma' may equally be applied to the 'private always good - public always bad' with which we have been bombarded since the days of Margaret Thatcher. And, while Graeme Palmer's critique of Nexus's plans (November Buses) is certainly 'clear and authoritative', I think that people should also read Bob Hind's series of articles, which give a very good picture of the patchy bundle of services that the private sector gives us now - particularly with regard to the sometimes scandalous lack of care for customers before they have boarded or once they have left the bus.
