Think of the county of Rutland and you maybe conjure up images of quintessential England: winding Hi lanes, rolling hills, cattle grazing in the meadows, idyllic villages and market towns. Best known for being England's smallest county (population 40,000) and for Rutland Water, the manmade reservoir created in the 1970s to supply much of East Anglia, Rutland is probably one of the last places you would think might introduce new rural bus services, least of all one that even runs a regular Sunday timetable. But you would be wrong. Bucking the trend of a constantly downward spiral of diminishing rural public transport elsewhere in the country, Rutland County Council is taking its responsibilities in this field very seriously indeed.
