Uno 383 shatters illusion of quiet duties

Not so long ago, most of the larger London bus garages had what was usually known as 'the old man's rota', a route or small group of routes that were less busy and stressful. They were favoured by older drivers, and in addition could be useful for newly qualified drivers to begin on. They were popular with drivers who had decided to work beyond the then normal retirement age of 65. In those days of endemic staff shortages they were therefore also useful in retaining drivers who might otherwise have given up. Today, sadly, the pressures of the tendering regime mean that few such routes still exist.
