Having at last caught up with my reading, may I reply to your correspondent Richard Andrews (You Write, June) who berates me for saving that Derby bus station is far superior to anything in Greater Manchester, with sometimes nine buses scheduled to leave on different services at the same time? He claims to have seen two dozen buses leaving Piccadilly Gardens at the same time. Possibly he has, but that is the result of the gridlock and chaos that regularly afflicts central Manchester as a result of roadworks, banning buses from key roads and the narrowing of others, as well as parades and other such events. I challenge him to find any bus station in Greater Manchester with even five scheduled departures at the same time.
