Transport authorities in England will have three new options available to them to exercise control over local bus services in their areas under plans outlined in the Queen's Speech on 17 May. The long anticipated Bus Services Bill - referred to until now as the Buses Bill - provides the additional options of franchising, enhanced partnership and advanced quality partnership schemes, as well as legally obliging operators to participate in multi-journey, multi-operator and multi-modal ticketing schemes and provide information on routes, timetables, fares and tickets. It would also prevent councils and other transport authorities from establishing companies to operate services directly.
