Iveco unveils new Afriway for South Africa

Iveco has launched a truck-derived intercity and long distance bus for the South African market, the Afriway, which will be available initially as a 12.3m two-axle model with manual or automatic transmission. A 14m three-axle version will follow. The locally assembled Afriway replaces the EuroMidi built by Iveco South Africa Works (ISAW). Its head of the bus division, Ray Karshagen, says: 'While the base driveline remains the same, the suspension has been tailored to enhance ride comfort in relation to the specific bus chassis. 'Rather than right in the front, the Euro3 Tector 6 engine is positioned over the front axle. The first and most important reason for this is better weight distribution, which enables an increased payload. The second factor is that the passenger entrance is positioned in the longer front overhang.'
