Economic RE in action at Winchester

Offering a reminder of the colourful post-deregulation years at a rear engine-themed running day in Winchester on 13 March was this ECW-bodied Bristol RELL6L in one of the liveries adopted by Busways after it took over Tyne & Wear PTE's bus operations in 1986. TRY 118H was one of 20 new to Leicester City Transport in 1969/70, five of which were sold on to Ipswich Borough Transport. It was among a fleet of secondhand REs that Busways acquired for low cost operations and initially was preserved in the livery of the Blue Bus Services unit inspired by the Newcastle livery pre-1949. It now carries the livery of Economic, which was revived in 1986 after an 11-year absence for services on the South Shields-Sunderland corridor.
