Auckland Enviro500 trialled in Wellington

The city of Wellington trialled one of the first Alexander Dennis Enviro500 double-deckers built for New Zealand during February. The 12.5m three-axle 91-seater, one of around 30 with dual-door bodywork assembled by Kiwi Bus Builders in Tauranga for operation in Auckland, provided free rides on 10 February to give the public a taste of the sort of vehicle that Greater Wellington Regional Council wants to introduce from mid-2017. The council intends to place 50 double-deckers - make and model not yet decided - in service, 10 of them hybrid electrics. 'Double-deckers will be part of the region's bus fleet within the next two years,' says the council's public transport portfolio leader, Paul Swain.
