New rally for Ipswich in March

A new date for the 2016 calendar is the Ipswich Bus Rally. This free event will be held on Sunday 20 March at Portman Road, using one of the car parks adjacent to the town's football ground. The event is being coordinated by Richard Walker, Neil Chilvers and Owen Phillips whc organised the Norwich Bus Rally in March last year. A network of free services will run from the rally site, including a frequent circular linking it with the railway station, bus stations and the Ipswich Transport Museum, which will begin its 2016 open season that day. Admission charges will apply at the museum. They are keen to welcome classic and modern buses and coaches, local bus operators as well as private individuals. There also will be sales stands. Walker says: 'Following the success of last year's Norwich Bus Rally, I had the idea of running a similar event based in Ipswich. We are all enthusiasts involved in private and museum preservation of historic local buses and believe that events like this are crucial to spreading the word to the public about the hard work we do, • and that the industry continues to do.
