Although Metal Sections, or Metsec for short, was responsible for many hundreds of bus bodies worldwide, it was not a bodybuilder in the normal sense and complete vehicles did not routinely emerge from its works. The company was registered on 16 January 1931 at River Lea Road in the Greet area of Birmingham as a maker of cold-rolled steel sections, moving soon after to Bordesley Green Road before Tube Investments acquired the company in 1932. In 1947 it moved to the Broadwell Works, Oldbury where Metsec developed its 'Bus in a Box' concept for the developing world, in which all of the components of a bus body were shipped in kit form for assembly using only the most basic of tools.
