Here is something that we rarely have an opportunity to review: a novel about buses and a bus company rather than a factual book. The event around which it is structured did happen, however. The colour bar that saw the Bristol Omnibus Company refuse to recruit Afro-Caribbean and Asian drivers and conductors in Bristol until August 1963. It was lifted after the affected communities organised a boycott of the company's services and enlisted the support of around 100 protesting university students. A landmark in the move to make racial discrimination illegal in Britain.
