The Dennis Triton was designed as a London County Council schoolbus, and 72 of these highly manoeuvrable, 10ft 6in wheelbase vehicles were supplied during 1952 and 1953. Other than two 12-seat Welfare Department Tritons supplied later in the 1950s, all had 21-seat Dennis bodies equipped with nearside and offside front entrances, permitting safe kerbside loading, or unloading, at either side of the road. At the beginning and end of the day, they conveyed to and from school those children who, for whatever reason, were unable to make the journey unaided. During school hours, they transported others to and from playing fields, swimming baths and similar facilities.
