Volvo wins order for Birmingham Airport electrics

Volvo has won a contract to supply Birmingham Airport with six opportunity charged 7900e electric single-deckers for landside car park services. The buses, to be built in Poland, are due in service in November and will be similar to eight operated by Transdev's The Harrogate Bus Company on town services in North Yorkshire. Their batteries will be topped up by 6min charges from two 300kW ABB OppCharge gantries to be installed outside the terminal building. More gantries will be installed around the route if services are expanded.
