If Nexus's proposals for a quality contract scheme achieved anything, that may be NEbus, the operators' association born to resist what they saw as the confiscation of their commercial businesses. Today NEbus has a role for general promotion of bus matters, and was used in autumn 2020 as the umbrella for a campaign to encourage more passengers to wear face coverings on buses. Its current chair is Go North East managing director Martijn Gilbert, who describes it as 'a good vehicle to engage with politicians'.
