Until 2011, my concept of a coach holiday involved a group of enthusiasts getting together, going away on a coach (the older the better) and spending a week photographing buses, riding on buses (the older the better), visiting depots and museums, then spending the evening in the hotel bar talking about buses. Mrs B pointed out to me that most coach holidays were not like that at all, and that she and some of her friends had enjoyed two coach holidays to Belgium where there was no talk about buses and they had engaged in conventional pursuits like visiting an antiques fair. Thus it came about that I was persuaded to accompany her on our first Shearings holiday, to Dublin. Nine years and nine holidays later, all with Shearings, I seem to have got the hang of it. On Monday 10 October 2011, we walked the short distance from our home in Wallasey to the designated pick-up point and boarded Shearings 312 (BK11 COH), a nearly new blue Setra S416GT-HD sbc-wheeler. Our luggage was put in the underneath locker and we did not see it again until arriving at our hotel room in Ireland's capital city.
