One for the road at the newly opened Roe

One piece of good cheer in this year of pandemic restrictions is that the Charles Henry Roe pub in Leeds (July 'Tales') finally opened to the public on 22 July. This is the Wetherspoon establishment in Crossgates, commemorating the founder of the coachbuilding business not much more than a stone's throw away in Manston Lane that operated in his name from 1921 until 1984, and was reopened the following year as Optare. Thanks to the Transport Yorkshire Preservation Group, which suggested the name for the hostelry, the pub is decorated inside with images and objects associated with Roe the man, Roe the manufacturer and of bus operation in Leeds. Even the carpeting has a Roe theme, taking its colour cues from the green used in the company's name badges and of a design that would have looked at home on seat moquette.
