Roadjet, a new start-up in Germany, has launched the country's first premium, long-distance coach route despite the restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic. The daily service started on 10 August, linking Stuttgart and Berlin via Nuremberg and Leipzig with one daytime and one overnight journey. Roadjet, based at Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart, plans to add services connecting Stuttgart with Hamburg and Munich later this year. The start was delayed by a week, pending completion of type approval and registration of the company's two Ayats Horizon-bodied Scania tri-axle double-deckers, which have 44 semi-reclining, heated leather seats with massage function. These are configured in a mixture of 2+1, double and single layouts and there is space for two wheelchair users. The powerful free high-speed Wi-Fi uses twin routers. Passengers are each allowed 7kg hand luggage and up to two suitcases, each weighing up to 20kg. The coaches have an aircraft-style changing room, separate toilet and a dispensing machine for refreshments. Roadjet says ultraviolet light in the toilets will prevent the spread of infectious diseases and argues that the generous seat spacing makes its coaches 'very Covid-19 compatible'.
