Edinburgh's original St Andrew Square bus station opened in April 1957, replacing on-street stops around the Georgian square. The Scottish Bus Group marked the event by displaying a selection of its subsidiaries' vehicles. Among these, Ken Cameron photographed Scottish Omnibuses B456A (KSC 533), an Alexander-bodied AEC Reliance exhibited at the 1955 Scottish Motor Show. It was the first Reliance in the SMT-branded fleet and the only one with the 6.7litre AH410 engine that powered its integral AEC/ Park Royal Monocoaches. Its bus-style body was finished as a luxury coach with 30 reclining seats and a toilet for operation alongside heavier AEC Regal IVs on the overnight Edinburgh-London service. The small engine is said to have been unacceptably noisy for this work. It became a driver training vehicle in 1967 and was sold for scrapping in 1975.
