Bob Gray, restorer of Southdown Leylands

Bob Gray, a craftsman bodybuilder who owned and restored two Southdown Leyland single-deckers, died on 10 February following a short illness. He was 80. A native of south Hampshire who spent all his life there and was a popular member of the Solent Omnibus Club, he began his working life with Southdown Motor Services as a bodybuilding apprentice at Hilsea garage and turned a lifelong interest — his father, who was killed in action during World War 2, had been a conductor at Southdown's Warsash depot and his childhood home was in the village of Titchfield — into two restoration projects in later life.
