A previously untold story of London's country operators

This mighty tome is the product of a lifetime's dedicated research into all that can be recorded of the histories of every small operator known to have provided local routes in London and the inner Home Counties in the years before London Transport was formed in 1933. The authors began this quest in their youth in 1958 and it has fallen to Ken Blacker, the last survivor of the trio, to complete this third volume covering the western segment of the Country Area north of the River Thames between Windsor, Watford, Hemel Hempstead and Aylesbury. The first volume was published in 1977 and the second in 1983. This one benefits from additional research undertaken by John Cummings, who also died before it was completed, and from the encouragement of the late Derek Giles, the legendary traffic manager at Southend Corporation Transport and stalwart of the Omnibus Society who helped persuade Blacker to complete the task.
