Flixbus has begun testing the first of a fleet of battery electric coaches that it aims to operate on at least four key medium distance routes in the United States from next year. The MCI CRTe LE Charge—built by Motor Coach Industries, part of Alexander Dennis owner NFI Group — made a 160mile round trip on 28 October from San Francisco to Sacramento and back. This link between two Californian cities is one of four that the German-owned international coach giant has flagged up for electric coach operation from next year, using similar vehicles. Two others on the West Coast are Los Angeles-San Diego (130miles each way) and Portland-Seattle (175miles each way). It also plans to operate them on the 95mile East Coast route connecting New York and Philadelphia.
