A slice of 1960s municipal pride

This latest album of a teenage Jim Blake's black and white photographs of bygone bus scenes takes in the vehicles of 49 municipal undertakings in England and two (Cardiff and Newport) in south Wales. Many were taken on enthusiast tours or trips from his London home that were facilitated by rail rover tickets, and are presented chronologically from May 1964 to October 1967. They reveal how boyhood discoveries could excite him so much that we would return to a city like Birmingham or Manchester as speedily as possible after a first visit.
