Anyone picking up the news in recent months about bus services in Britain can be left in little doubt that some are in a critical state, with many local authority supported routes - rural ones especially - being withdrawn and declining numbers of passengers using some commercial routes. Funding is at the heart of it, but there are other issues too, such as how building much needed housing has led to whole communities being cut off without supplying such necessities as shops and public transport.
