John Nye, a lifelong enthusiast who became general manager of one of the Lancashire municipal undertakings, died on 6 February, aged 91.Thirty years of progression through north-west England municipals culminated in his appointment as general manager of Lytham St Annes Corporation Transport Department in 1973, a year before the department passed to the new Fylde Borough Council, where he held the post until 1981, after which for several years he was manager of Aspdens Coaches at Blackburn.John Gordon Emerson Nye was born inHove on 25 January 1927. The family moved to Merseyside and after leaving school at 16, and with a maturing and enthusiastic schoolboy interest in the world of buses, it was inevitable that it was to be there that he would look for employment. His transport career started in November 1943 in the Hatton Garden head office of Liverpool Corporation Passenger Transport, both in the private hire and schedules departments. He left Liverpool in 1954 to be senior schedules clerk at St Helens and from there on to traffic superintendent at Accrington, then deputy general manager at Burnley,Colne & Nelson in 1971.
