Rome upgrades ATAC fleet, plans trolley extension

The Atac municipal undertaking in Rome has ordered 320 new single-deckers as part of a major renewal of the Italian capital's transport system following several dramatic bus fires. The 10m and 12m buses will be supplied at a cost of €100million (£89million) by Iveco and Industria Italiana Autobus, which was set up the Finmeccania and Del Rosso companies in 2015 to take over the former BredaMenariniBus factory in Bologna. The first are due next year, with 60% of the cost being met by Italy's national bus fund. Most are Euro6 diesels, but 40 will be fuelled powered by natural gas.
