Green Line Swift stars at Epping

Major attraction at an Epping Ongar Railway event for London's rear-engined AEC single-deckers on 9 September was the appearance in service of newly restored London Country SMA8 (JPF 108K), an AEC Swift with 45-seat Alexander W-type body to Green Line coach standard. This was one of 21 ordered by South Wales Transport and diverted to London Country in 1972 to help accelerate the modernisation of its aged fleet inherited from London Transport two years earlier and to assist in phasing out the employment of conductors.
