Renown retreats and emerges as Eastbourne Coachways

Having made preparations to transfer its commercial registrations to the associated Eastbourne Coachways licence, Bexhill-based independent Renown Transport Services lost of all its tendered work for East Sussex and Kent County Councils at short notice in late September. The East Sussex work was then won back by Eastbourne Coachways, but Flimwell-based Hams Travel won the Kent contract for the 297 across the Weald between Tenterden, Cranbrook and Tunbridge Wells. Although long established and running several school routes, Hams has only recently ventured into tendered bus operation. In September, it took over the Weald shoppers services which are among the routes with the highest per-passenger subsidy in Kent and that were previously provided by Arriva.
