A fares war has broken out in Guildford following Arriva's loss of the concession to run buses to the University of Surrey (September Buses). Arriva has introduced low fares on its routes 26 and 27, which - with the campus excepted - broadly serve the same parts of Guildford as Stagecoach's new routes 1 and 2. As well as offering a £1 single fare to students, Arriva is promoting a one-week ticket at £7 for everybody, for use on the 26 and 27. Stagecoach has made £1 cash fares available to all passengers, as well as reducing other single fares, and has replaced its £15 Routerider ticket just for the 1 and 2 with a new Guildford local weekly Megarider at what it describes as an 'introductory rate' of £7 to match the Arriva offer.
