Stagecoach widens wings to whizz into Widnes

Stagecoach Merseyside & South Lancashire launched a new X5 express service in early September, connecting Liverpool with Widnes. The corridor is also served by Arriva and municipal Halton Transport. Plaxton Profile-bodied Volvo B7R coaches have been transferred from Scotland and branded for the route. Before they were ready, it used Enviro400 double-deckers, including some to a higher specification on Scania chassis, recently transferred from Stagecoach South's Coastliner service. The new route takes 45min between Liverpool and central Widnes, a faster alternative to that provided by competitors, though at half-hourly some other options are more frequent.
