On July 1 1915 the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service commenced operation assuming responsibility for lights, buoys and beacons that marked coastal and international shipping routes from the various colonial (now state) governments. Many more aids to navigation were constructed over the following years and today AMSA maintains a network of 490 AtoN in Australian waters. The centenary was officially marked on July 1 and AMSA has been celebrating this milestone with the broader lighthouse community throughout 2015 with many events and products.
