It is thanks to the numerous people voluntarily sharing information, knowledge and experience -often giving their own time, beyond the call of duty -that the Committees are able to produce and keep up to date our technical documentation. This extensive body of authoritative guidance fulfils a vital function in marine accident prevention, in terms of both efficient and safe vessel movements and protection of the environment. The WWA, on its part, plays an increasingly important role in raising awareness of IALA standards among coastal States developing their maritime economy, by providing education, training and capacity-building assistance proportionate to their needs.
