Scholars Convene to Discuss Ethics of Science in Beijing

Jointly organized by CAS and the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST), a conference on ethics of science and technology was held on Oct. 31 in Beijing. It is one of the worldwide meeting series "Ethics around the World" sponsored by COMEST, an advisory body to the UNESCO Director-General on issues in the field. CAS President LU Yongxiang, who is also vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's top legislature NPC and a COMEST member, delivered a keynote speech entitled Re-thoughts on Ethics of Science. Other speakers at the morning session of the meeting included Prof. Dr. Henk ten Have, director of the Division of Ethics of S&T of UNESCO. CAS Member ZHENG Du, Prof. Sang-Yong Song, a COMEST member. More than 100 experts and scholars attended the session.
