Culture and the City: A View from the 'Athens of the North'

'High' and 'low' culture can play an important role in urban regeneration and in revitalizing the social and economic fortunes of large post-industrial cities. Culture can have five principal impacts: on the land market and the physical form of cities, on job creation, on social capital, on the knowledge base, and on the image of cities and urban living.
