This limited copy anniversary edition has its own history. With the modern development of Portmeirion dating from 1926, the architect and owner, Clough Williams-Ellis, published his first version of this book in 1963, followed 10 years later by a revised edition. Real aficionados will also know that the same author periodically produced an illustrated guide (selling for half a crown) under the quaint title of Portmeirion still further explained and illustrated with fresh words and yet bigger and better pictures. There is nothing unexpected about this publication history.
