摘要

The questions central to this issue of Built Environment concern conservation education and how, in facing the myriad challenges associated with conserving built heritage, practitioners and teachers can achieve the best results. This is the third issue of Built Environment to address the theme of conservation. The previous two, both edited by Peter J. Larkham, were Conservation in Western Planning Systems (vol. 23, no. 2, 1997) and Conservation: Experience outside the Industrialized West (vol. 25, no. 3, 1999). Both issues focused 'on planning approaches and systems'; and both emphasized how 'culture ... is vital in shaping the character and appearance ... of places' (Larkham 1999, pp.189-190).
