This book is a new edition of Building the 21st Century Home - The Sustainable Urban Neighbourhood by the same authors, published in 1999. Their reasons for changing the title are not explained.rnComparing the two editions, the structure of the book is the same and most chapter headings are identical although the chapter on costs has been extended as have the introduction and final chapter. Most photographs, drawings and figures are also unchanged. Some of the case study examples have been swapped for newer/ more successful examples and the total has risen from thirty-seven to thirty-nine. Most changes however are to be found in sections at the end of each chapter where recent changes, such as the credit crunch have been incorporated. Overall the new edition has a very confident tone, as the authors feel that 'many of the things we predicted andrnargued for in this book at the end of the 1990s have come to pass'.
