This book delivers at once less than the title promises and a great deal more. On the one hand, the subject matter is much more limited than one might expect. The focus is actually limited to public planning as it has played out since the 1960s in South Hampshire, the area along the southern coast of Britain between the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton. The book traces what happened in this area from the time of the expansive planning vision of Colin Buchanan and his South Hampshire Study of 1966 to the more circumscribed, contingent strategies being pursued today by the Partnership for South Hampshire.
