Evolution of Cities and Territories in Tunisia through Parties' Electoral Programmes and Civil Society's Proposals

Since the Tunisian uprising, the territorial issue has been at the forefront of the political and media scene. Parties in the race to the first democratic election of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) devoted substantial parts of their manifestos to this topic. Through an analysis of the pre-election programmes of the foremost political parties prior to the election, and of draft constitutions of the parties together with proposals front associations, this study highlights the common features that seem to guide the future development of policies for Tunisian cities and regions as well as those that differ, and also topics for future debate. We also address the dynamics of the parties' positions on territorial issues before and after the elections and the role played by urban and regional planning specialists in the positions of the parties, and even in defining the direction that the country seems to be following towards decentralization.
