Take a peek back into corporate North America 25 to 30 years ago. 1970s-bred systems furniture was everywhere. Particularly popular were assemblages with generic, monolithic-style panels sporting removable, electrical harnesses and matching kick plates. For office systems furniture, the 1970s was a prolific decade. Furniture industry majors embroiled themselves in an aggressive "match-the-feature" competition that led to a glut of putty-trimmed panels that could be connected all the way to the moon. For 15 years, furniture companies with healthy distribution capabilities dominated the market, and smaller players were left with the remnants.
