Kone has developed an ingenious little lift motorthat removes the need for ugly plant rooms. Andy Cook reports on claims that this breakthrough can save customers space and money. Retrofitting lifts can be a headache for designers. lifts need large motors which are often housed in unsightly plant rooms installed on roofs. But now leading manufacturer Kone has developed a lift for low- and medium-rise buildings that does not need a separate plant room. This, the manufacturer claims, allows clients to save the £5000-9000 cost of a plant room.
