The three day event, held at South Lanarkshire College (7-9 October), saw nearly 100 apprentices and young trades people from across the UK compete to be the best tradesperson in 12 categories including bricklaying. The students celebrated their success at a post-event awards dinner at Hampden Park stadium.rnThe test piece was formed of 3 modules which were to be completed in 3 days and tested their skills in setting out, cutting, and laying bricks, including corbelling and squints plus the addition of a decorative panel. The bricks were supplied by Hanson and the mortar by Tarmac, both of whom have supported the regional heats as well as the final. The competition was won by Craig Bray from Barnsley College, with Dale Smith from Bridgwater College in silver medal position and Philip Green from Belfast Metropolitan College in Northern Ireland in 3rd place.
