Year-on-year house prices have fallen in London for the first time since 2009, according to the Office for National Statistics. In the last year prices fell 0.2% in London and by about 1.4% in the South East. Average prices in the capital are still about a third higher than in the next most expensive region. North Midland Construction pointed to tough market conditions as the context for a bleak performance over the first quarter of the year. In an update to the City, the contractor said first quarter profit before tax fell by 44% to £350,000 on the same period last year, with revenues falling by 8.6% to £44m.
