The coalition government arrived with bold pronouncements. One was that it would be the "greenest government ever" another that the Green Deal to be rolled out this year will support the creation of 100,000 green jobs by 2015 -albeit scaled-down to 65,000. Yet carbon emissions are rising, and CITBConstructionSkills predicts that 45,000 jobs will be lost in construction in 2012 alone. Youth unemployment is at its highest level since records began with one in five young people not in employment, education or training.
