The prime minister downgraded the role of housing minister within the government this week, after junior minister Kris Hopkins was appointed to the brief to replace Mark Prisk in a ministerial reshuffle. Hopkins, 50, who is Conservative MP for Keighley and a former leader of Bradford council, was appointed to the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) as housing minister, replacing Prisk, who was axed after 12 months in the role. Hopkins was appointed as a parliamentary undersecretary of state-a junior ministerial role that is a grade below that of Prisk, who was a minister of state.
