A consortium led by Laing O'Rourke has been named preferred bidder for a £200m general hospital development in Dumfries. NHS Dumfries and Galloway said the contractor will start construction of the 350-bed facility on the outskirts of Dumfries next year. Laing O'Rourke is in consortium with Serco, which will provide estate management services. Housing demand has fallen back this year but remains "resilient", housebuilder Berkeley Group has told investors. Berkeley's chairman Tony Pidgley told the firm's AGM this week: ""Demand for the right product with good design in the best locations has remained resilient and, reflecting this, forward sales have been maintained at the levels previously reported."
