Bovis sees average house construction cost rise by 12% in 2014

Housebuilder Bovis saw the average cost of constructing a house rise by 12% in 2014, on the back of deepening labour shortages. The firm said that even after stripping out the effects of building bigger homes and a shift in geographic focus, the like-for-like increase in construction costs was around 7%. Bovis revealed the cost hikes when announcing bumper results for the calendar year 2014, with house completions rising 29% to 3,635, and pre-tax profit leaping 69% to £133.5m.
