£1bn pledged to major UK infrastructure

Chancellor George Osborne has committed over £1bn of funds to developing major infrastructure projects including new flood defences, Crossrail 2 and HS3. It came as a long-awaited review of Network Rail, authored by HS1 boss Nicola Shaw and published alongside the Budget, called on the client to devolve power over major rail routes and for more rail infrastructure projects to be privately financed, but ruled out wholesale privatisation of the organisation.
