Lendlease and Sir Robert McAlpine have emerged as frontrunners for the £1.5bn redevelopment of a former army barracks in St John's Wood in north London. It is the latest major job in the capital the two are vying for after Lendlease was tipped last month to beat McAlpine to build Google's new £650m UK headquarters in King's Cross. The duo are understood to have edged ahead of another Google rival, Multiplex, in the contest for the high-profile scheme.
