Foster+ Partners' masterplan for a major new Thameside neighbourhood at Silvertown in east London has been approved. London's deputy mayor for planning, Jules Pipe, resolved to grant planning permission for the new masterplan at a public hearing last month. Pipe called in the 19ha, 5,000-home, mixed-use scheme in late 2019 after Newham council refused it planning citing worries over infrastructure. Stanton Williams' £37m overhaul of Rhodes House, part of Oxford university, has won planning approval on the casting vote of the committee chair. The scheme provides new offices and residential accommodation and will allow the Rhodes Trust to increase the number of scholarships it offers.
