In 2012, the government commissioned former CBI director-general Howard Davies to look into how to expand the UK's airport capacity, writes Dove Rogers. Three schemes were shortlisted for consideration - building a second runway at Gatwick, extending the existing northern runway at Heathrow and building a new, third runway at the same airport, the north-west runway.
